Before starting LifeWave in 2004, Scientist and Inventor, David Schmidt, was challenged with the opportunity to answer one persisting question: how can people sustain energy without using drugs, stimulants, or caffeine? As a result of work he performed for the design of emergency oxygen systems for General Dynamics and the US Navy, David was invited to participate in the Navy's next generation minisub program. The mission was to find a way to keep crews alive longer in the event of an accident. David saw this as an opportunity to find a way to improve the crews' energy and stamina without having to resort to drugs or stimulants in order to stay awake and alert on long missions.

This lead David on a journey to what became the LifeWave Energy patch.

When the Energy Enhancer patch was first unveiled, it got immediate attention from medical doctors, one of them being Steve Haltiwanger. Dr Haltiwanger did extensive study on the patches, and through one of his colleagues, the patches got into the hands of the Stanford Swim Team Coach, Richard Quick.

Just three weeks after providing the patches to the Stanford University Team, six of its eight members broke their personal lifetime records. Shortly thereafter, the Stanford Team members were spotted wearing the patches during the Olympic Swimming Trials. This propelled LifeWave into the national media spotlight, once the patches were tested by the US Olympic Committee, and found not to contain any performance enhancing drugs, stimulants, or any other substances banned by the US Olympic Committee.
